Stations of the Cross 11 & 12: South Africa

Marie-Anne te Brake

 11. Jesus is nailed to the cross

We adore you o Christ and we praise you

because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world

Crosses come in many forms. Financial burdens, family hardships, hunger, homelessness, insecurity, mental and physical struggles, emotional pain. Crosses are part of our human experience and Jesus knows this but just as he doesn’t give up on the thief hanging next to him, He doesn’t give up on us.  If we are given these chances how then should we act towards others?   Are we the ones striking in those nails

 12. Jesus dies on the cross

We adore you o Christ and we praise you

because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world

We look at our country torn by greed, hunger, hopelessness and hate and we grow discouraged but God turns death and failure into life.  This is the message of the Easter Gospel.  We see the destruction but we see the joy too. We acknowledge the slow work of God and we make a new commitment in bringing forth His peace and love.
